HEAD OF CONSTRUCTION

 

We are currently seeking a dynamic Head of Construction to join our team and oversee the construction operations across all of our developments.

This is a full-time position based on the Isle of Wight offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to lead a talented team and drive the success of our projects.

The successful candidate will have a solid background in construction management, with a strong focus on health and safety, project planning, and team leadership.

They will be responsible for managing multiple construction projects simultaneously, ensuring that they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

The ideal candidate will work as part of the senior leadership team and take a ‘whole company’ perspective to managing and resolving issues.

Organisational and IT skills are essential and use of your own vehicle will be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of construction projects, from planning and budgeting to execution and delivery.
  • Recruit, retain and manage a team of construction professionals, including site managers and subcontractors.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Develop and implement construction schedules and timelines.
  • Monitor project progress and address any issues or delays promptly.
  • Review and approve project budgets, contracts, and expenditures.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on project status and performance.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment to promote team productivity and morale.
  • Ensure the company maximises revenue generation and contribution to the company’s operating profit.
  • Work with the sales department to deliver exceptional customer experience.
  • Champion customer care within the business, implement the company’s customer care policies and procedures and develop quality assurance standards. Ensure that customer satisfaction targets are met and deal with customer care issues which have not been resolved through the customer care team.
  • Liaise with the Sales Director to ensure up to date understanding of sales exchange and completion targets to ensure the construction programme optimises revenue generation for each development.
  • Ensure appropriate reporting to the company directors in line with the standard format and schedule.
  • Working towards company targets and seeking to positively influence the progression and growth of Captiva Homes and it’s team.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a contracts manager-level role or equivalent, preferably with a developer or Tier 1 contractor.
  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations and practices, with relevant qualifications such as SMSTS and H&S qualifications (e.g., HNC or HND).
  • Experience managing multiple construction projects simultaneously, with a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Proficiency in project planning, scheduling, and budgeting.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively.
  • Technical knowledge and experience in reading drawings and specifications.
  • Experience in writing construction environmental management plans (CEMP).
  • Experience in timber frame construction is preferred but not essential.
